You clean your closets, reorganize your kitchen, and swap out winter clothes. Your financial life deserves the same seasonal attention. Here are 7 quick reviews that collectively take less than an hour.
1. Subscriptions (10 min). Open your bank statement and highlight every recurring charge. Cancel anything you haven't used in 30 days. Downgrade anything you're overpaying for.
2. Insurance (5 min). When did you last review your auto, renters, or health insurance? Rates change. Your needs change. A 5-minute check could save hundreds annually.
3. Beneficiaries (5 min). Check who's listed as beneficiary on your retirement accounts, life insurance, and bank accounts. Life changes (marriage, divorce, new children) mean these need updating.
4. Passwords & Security (10 min). Update passwords on your bank, investment, and email accounts. Enable two-factor authentication everywhere it's offered.
5. Emergency Fund (5 min). How many months of expenses do you have saved? If it's less than one month, make building it your Q2 priority.
6. Credit Report (10 min). Pull your free annual credit report from annualcreditreport.com. Look for errors or accounts you don't recognize.
7. Financial Goals (10 min). Revisit the goals you set in January. Are they still relevant? Adjust if needed. Progress over perfection.
You don't have to do all 7 today. Pick 2-3 that feel most urgent and do the rest next weekend. The point is momentum, not perfection.
